How to manage food at Christmas with a stoma | by Nikki<\/h1>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n

Christmas is a time for celebration, family, gifts, food and drinks. So how do you manage if you have a stoma? I\u2019ve put together a few Christmas food tips for anyone who needs them\u2026<\/h4>\n\n\n

  1. Drinking alcohol<\/strong> – if you love a Christmas tipple, having a stoma doesn\u2019t mean the end of that. It just means we have to been a bit more mindful. For every alcoholic drink you have, have a soft drink – it will keep you hydrated and could even lessen the hangover! I would also probably take it easy if you\u2019re not sure what your limit is, I\u2019m still in the stages of working out if I am less tolerant of alcohol\u2026 don\u2019t be heading to the bar to do a round of tequila shots before you\u2019re ready. Take it slow and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Don\u2019t try foods you\u2019ve not tried yet\u2026<\/strong> nobody wants a blockage on Christmas. I\u2019ve been there, and it wasn\u2019t my favourite thing to be doing at Christmas. Even before stoma life, I indulged on one or two, too many nuts and ended up in A&E due to strictures. This is more likely to happen with a stoma, so I would say, Christmas is not the time to be doing the ‘trial and error method’. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Make sure veggies are well cooked.<\/strong> Take it from me, an undercooked broccoli stalk can land you in agony. Make sure the veg is cooked and soft and chew chew chew everything else. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Most of all, have a Merry Christmas! <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    And let\u2019s hope the next year is filled with happiness and health for us all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
