Feel more comfortable with the right stoma care accessories
Many people use stoma care accessories as part of their daily routine. These products can support the fit of your pouch system, help protect the skin, and make bag changes easier to manage.
Stoma seals can help create a closer fit around the stoma. They sit between the skin and the baseplate and may help support the seal of the pouch system.
Some people also choose belts or support products to help hold their bag more securely against the body. These can provide additional support during everyday activities.
Looking after the skin around the stoma is an important part of stoma care. Skin protection products such as barrier films can help protect the skin, while adhesive removers can help make pouch changes gentler on the skin.
Products for output management are also available. Solidifying agents can help thicken liquid output inside the bag, which may make emptying easier and help reduce movement inside the pouch.
Stoma care accessories can be used with colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy bags depending on the product. Exploring different accessories can help you find options that work well with your routine.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need all accessories?
Not necessarily, your routine is as unique as you are. Some people use multiple accessories, other only use one or two regularly, and some only use them as needed.
What’s important is you speak to your stoma care nurse about your stoma care routine but also your lifestyle as they may suggest certain accessories for different times. For instance, you may want to use flange extenders when the weather is warmer, or you’re exercising, to help your bag stick better. If you’ve got firmer output, solidifying agents might not work for you but for those with looser output, it might be useful for night time or if you have limited access to a toilet while out and you want that bit more security.
What’s most important is that you feel comfortable and in control.
Which accessory could help with stoma leaks?
The right accessory depends on what may be causing the leak. eakin® seals can add an absorbent barrier around your stoma, while eakin Cohesive® paste can help fill dips and creases to create a smoother pouching surface. eakin Contour™ flange extenders can help secure the edges of your baseplate, and an ostomy belt may provide extra support.
Speak to your stoma care nurse before changing your routine so they can help identify the cause of the leak and recommend the most suitable option for you.
Which accessories may help with liquid output from my stoma?
If your output is loose or watery, an absorbent seal can help protect the skin around your stoma by reducing contact with output. eakin Perform™ sachets can also help transform liquid output into a gel, which may make emptying your bag easier and offer extra reassurance at night or when toilet access is limited.
Your needs may change with diet, hydration, medication or health, so speak to your stoma care nurse if your output changes or you are unsure what to use.
How can accessories help protect the skin around my stoma?
Healthy skin can help your bag adhere securely and feel more comfortable. A barrier film can create a protective layer before you apply your bag, while an absorbent seal can help reduce contact between output and the skin. Paste may also help level dips and creases that could allow output underneath the baseplate.
If your skin becomes persistently discoloured, sore, itchy or broken, contact your stoma care nurse rather than relying on accessories alone.
How can I make my bag removal gentler on my skin?
An adhesive remover spray or wipe, such as Release™, can help lessen the stickiness of the adhesive so you can remove the bag slowly and gently.
Work from the top down, supporting your skin as you peel the baseplate away rather than pulling it off quickly. Allow the skin to dry fully before applying your next bag, and speak to your stoma care nurse if bag removal remains painful or causes repeated skin damage.
Can accessories help when I exercise, swim or travel?
They can offer extra reassurance when your routine changes. Flange extenders may help secure the edges of your baseplate during activity or in warm conditions, while a support belt can help keep your bag in place. If you have liquid output, a solidifying sachet may also be useful when toilet access is limited.
Try any new accessory at home first and ask your stoma care nurse which options suit your stoma, bag and activity level.
When might an ostomy belt or support belt be useful?
A belt may provide extra support and help keep your bag secure during everyday movement or activity. Some people use one for added confidence, while others may be advised to use a particular belt with their pouching system.
A belt should feel supportive rather than painfully tight. Check that it does not rub your stoma or restrict output, and ask your stoma care nurse to help with fit and suitability.
What is the difference between ostomy paste and a seal?
Both can help create a more even pouching surface, but they are used differently. A seal is moulded around the stoma to add an absorbent barrier and help protect the skin from output. Whereas paste is used in smaller amounts to fill dips, creases or uneven areas beneath the baseplate; it is not an adhesive.
Depending on your needs, your stoma care nurse may suggest using one or both as part of your routine.
When should I speak to my stoma care nurse?
Ask for advice if you have repeated leaks, frequent bag changes, persistent soreness or itching, broken skin, pain, bleeding that concerns you, or a significant change in your stoma or output. You should also seek guidance if an accessory is uncomfortable or does not solve the problem you are using it for.
Your stoma care nurse can help identify the cause and review your pouch fit and routine rather than simply adding more products.
